A whopping BIG almost 2.5 Mb of Defs in one of todays updates, biggest for a while. Must be all those rogues :D

The download started off fine, but with 800k to go it slowed right down to 3kbps :(

For Avira10 APSS I had to repeat the update as I encountered an error. In my old pc with Avira9 Premium updates seems forever to finish. My bro's Avira10 personal still hadn't updated. Maybe the server problem is coming back....

Ya ya, and in another news, avast! 5 free upgraded to a new build and no server congestion was reported. But may be that is because they have more users than Antivir now, and they somehow share updates with each other through some stealth P2P tech. Bad avast!.

Apparently Avira's "overload" servers just don't work. The DNS zone is still defunct, probably their DNS admin went MIA ...

While certainly an interesting idea ;), you can stay assured that the avast updates are downloaded using traditional methods - i.e. exclusively from the avast updating infrastructure.

    Thanks
    Vlk

Dear Vlk, this was meant to a bit of sarcasm pointed at Avira, with the way
they always point out premium vs free update server thing. Can never imagine avast! doing something stealthy.
Thanks for building an excellent product.

    Regards
    Ravi

Well today i can't update at all via the program, and trying manually to download the VDF file several times also fails. How is it for you ?

I find your lack of faith disturbing. The 'free death star update server' will be ready soon.

    @ravi16aug

    Really :D

Must be a wobble in the Matrix, or something ;)

I'm not desperate for an update lol, but in the past whenever the program update has failed, the manual VDF never has. Just wondered if it was happening to others, and why, that's all, easy tiger :D

Patience and control over frustration Antivir updates teach you. Learn something from it should others.

I have 2 computers with Avira personal, and both updated normally. The only difference I can see between the Premium and the Personal is that the Premium is slightly faster in downloading.

I have never faced problems updating Avira Premium these last months. But I might be lucky.

Can you show me where it says that Avira has less userbase than Avast and good that Avast is, Avira it won't be Avira, not yet but future maybe different as it does have the potential to. Avira's frequent outages are truly frustrating though but then they also have huge userbase, strangely I am yet to experience these update issues but thats probably due to by location.

Hey its a free country, you go say Avira has more, I say avast! has more, trjam comes and says <pull-my-current-setup-from-my-siggy-every-10-sec> has more. Don't be a nitpick.

I couldn't care less how many free users one antivirus company has compared to another one. I'm more concern if they are staying in business in the long term and keeping up with R&D and being supportive to their user base. :D

It's already mind blowing how many different security companies are out there these days and which ones can do a decent job of protecting 'us' users. I can go through countless forums and research groups and a bunch of b.s. and still pull my hair out at the end of the day!

2.5 mb of updates isnt anything, other AV's often have 10 x that amount
