AVG Update Question

Hello,
Today, 9/8/10, when I updated AVG, after the virus defs were downloaded and installed, a window popped up stating something to the effect that it was a suggested update for AVG WebShield or Web"something".
The pop up window was not the standard AVG update window.
As I started to read what this was it disappeared.
All I can remember before it disappeared is that I had something to do with browser security.
When I ran the AVG update again, the pop up did not appear.
I can not find anything on the website to suggest an update any feature in AVG like this.

Does anyone here who uses AVG (paid) know anything about this pop up?

I have posted this on the AVG forum but I have not seen a reply as of yet.

i dont think it is much of a concerned otherwise it vud have warned repeatedly

u can check logs too

 

I noticed a day or so ago on the freeware sites v.677 was available. I did that product update from the Avast 5 Free GUI.

I am still confused as to what this was trying to update so I will just re-install with the newest version.
The AVG logs do not state anything and it will not offer me the update so this has been difficult for me to track down.

If you let AVG automatic update it should upgrade to the latest 9.x.xxx version automatically. When 10x comes out you should have a popup alerting you that a new release is out.

 

I found out what this was.
The AVG free forum has a few threads concerning the “upgrade”.

It appears this was a “procedure” to get people to install the toolbar that you normally see when you install the main program.

I normally do not complain about issues like this but this will be the last time I install AVG or suggest it for a new user.

Up until now AVG has worked well for me. It’s a shame the company has to rely on tactics like this.
