As someone who has used computers since 1967, I installed a paid version of AVG Internet Security yesterday. The result was a corruption of a number of windows xp system files, causing an unstable system. In addition, the corrupted files made it impossible to do a system restore. I was saved by Acronis, and restored the computer to it's original condition after long hours of work.

I would highly suggest you have an image/backup available if your install AVG IS. I have never had any other AV program trash my system. NOD32 and Avira do not cause any problems-at least on my system.

I would be interested in any other similar experiences with AVG Internet Security.

Absolutely no such experience with AVG Internet Security, and its 10 months since I started using it now. :)

AVG has never caused any problem which thereatened the functionality of my OS. :)

Good to know and I expect 95% have not had a problem. But, until it happens to you...

    this forum is biased!
its sooo easy to blame your computers problems on your antivirus.

i used avg suite for ages, before my drweb and had zero problems.

both used with xp and vista.

There were no other variables. Of course it was the installation-cause and effect. And since I have never had a major computer problem in 27 years of using PCs, it is not about "blame" but cause and effect.

I guess this just shows how important regular backups can be. ;)

There are always other variables. ESPECIALLY the object between the chair and the keyboard.

I finally settled on AVG Internet Security to be my security suite of choice. Purchased and installed it last night. None of the problems mentioned by the OP occurring here.

Especially the kind that use capital letters.

If you are typing in English, or any other language for that matter, capitalisation is often necessary... :thumb: ;)

Anyway, I have never heard of ANY security suite that affects the OS that badly... something must have happened in between installation and the "death" of your OS.

Am glad to report that AVG IS runs perfectly with no problems on this capital letter-using object's computer. :D
