Is AVG AS asking you, or is your firewall or another program telling you?

Ewido used to always check the host file during scans. See this thread:

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=126285&highlight=host file

It checks to make sure you are not blocked from getting to the web site for updates. It does not check your other host entries. AFAIK, it only checks for its own.

No AVG Anti-Spyware is trying to modify it, if it has ewido.net manipulations, then it will remove the line. The check will be done before an update starts.

This will be done to ensure that ewido.net won't be redirected by a threat.

    Regards,
    Vinzenz
