I just installed avg antivirus pro trial version. and what i have found is that its the lightest of every AV i have used.right now its using around 2.3mb with 3 processes running.
    Now i have some questions,
which one has better detection rate antivirus alone or antimalware?
    does it updates automatically?

by the way im using firefox with noscript.

AVG Anti-Malware scores much better than AVG Free/Pro as it also uses the Ewido engine.

Antimalware for sure. it has much better detection than AVG pro cuz of the Ewido engine.

The AM version is only $4 US dollars more. It's a bargain.

AVG antimalware is likely to go my new PC when I get it. It will still be awhile, but if it is good enough to protect me, I certainly would recommend it to others...no need for me to elaborate you have read the reasons in the other postings. ;)

(Subject to my post in Ewido Thread on Lifetime promises not being kept I would be upset about that if I was Ewido customer too).

I gave AVG Anti-Malware trial version a try and liked it.

    I have two questions.

Does the AVG Suite use the Anti-Malware engine?
Does AVG use its own firewall, or is it a re-branded one, such as ZoneAlarm, Outpost, etc?

Graystroke I think the suite does use AVG AntiMalware. But as I don't use it i cannot be really sure about that.

MalwareDie, I thought I read somewhere that the suite does use AVG Anti-Malware, but couldn't remember for sure. I can't find anything on the AVG firewall.

CSJ, do you happen to know what firewall the suite uses?

its their own, as is the spam.

as far as im aware, its all their own product, but obviously now with the ewido database too.

The Anti-Spam engine in AVG Internet Security is based on Spamcatcher technology from Mailshell. Everything else is their own tech though. ;)

Thanks Firecat. Am I correct in that you are using AVG Anti-Malware? Have you used AVG Internet Security? If you have, what are your thoughts on their firewall?

The firewall's anti-leak protection is not so good. It is easy to configure and is an improvement over the Windows Firewall but I really didn't see anything particularly special in AVG's firewall.

Of course, I hear that the AVG firewall technology in Vista is different and improved over the one in XP, so maybe the Vista edition is better in this regard.
