    Hi Everyone,

Can anyone please help resolve this problem? A friend gave me her older laptop computer running Window's XP, she has money & now has a Vista machine!

On the laptop, AVG antispyware 7.5.0.50 plus was running perfectly (among many other things). Doing a daily scan & updates without a problem & the resident shield was very active. I got an update recently which seemed to work BUT now everytime I reboot now I get three halts which I don't understand & the software says it's TRIAL & I have 28 days left.

I'm going to try to attach the screenshots, I'm not good at this so I hope it works, my question is WHY am I getting these, and HOW can I correct it?

    Thanks for any help,

    Hi calcu007,

Thanks for the reply. I unintalled, deleted the AVG folder under grisoft and rebooted, I did not receive the halts. I downloaded the 7.5.1.43 which was the version I had after the update, before the update that seemed to corrupt it, it was 7.5.0.50 Plus I think. Intall went fine but when I reboot, I AGAIN get the 3 halts which I made screenshots of before. Then after I answer OK to the 3 halts, AVG scanner is in the system tray with colors and it says I now have 26 days left no premium support & no premium updates trial version? Any idea what could be causing this? Windows XP SP2+ all fixes, IE7...

Thanks for any further help you can give,
    Steve

Were/are there files left in the program directory after the uninstall? If so, which? Could you please try installing it to a different location?

    Hi Peter,

I deleted the AVG 7.5 anti-spyware folder under C:\Program files\Grisoft\AVG 7.5 Anti-spyware (as mentioned above), an EXTRA step that calcu007 didn't suggest but I thought prudent because the problem was weird. I'll TRY anything you suggest if I can get this working again correctly, IF I install someplace NEW will it still update daily & scan daily as it did before this update occured, right now it's working (after the 3 halts) but it seems I'm in TRIAL mode at this point?

Thanks again for the advice & help,
    Steve

Is there a place to enter the registration key? Usually the computer saves it to disk, and when you do the upgrade it feeds the key automatically. Ask her if she has the key written down. :)

    Hi twl845

I spoke to her asking about a key, to answer your question, on the TRIAL version YES there is a place to enter a key, she told me she was using Ewido and it changed to AVG, UPGRADED her working key to AVG and entered it & now is not sure what the key is (sloppy I know) she doesn't even know the OLD Ewido key now so I'm sure I'm SCREWED but would like to fix this problem if possible, I'll buy a new AVG subscription because I think the software is top of the line!

How about if you e-mail AVG support and give them her e -mail address. maybe they can forward you the key.

    OK,

Even a valid serial does NOT fix the halts displayed above on RE-BOOT, there is another problem, as Peter suggested I'll install it to a different place & see what happens!

    OK,

I installed it into a different location, on RE-BOOT I get the same 3 halts I gave screenshots for, there is something else going on which I do not understand, like other libraries being called somehow, this is MORE than a serial number problem.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hello Everyone,

I have done several things, I UN-Installed AVG Anti-Spyware from the different directory I installed it in (which didn't FIX the problem) I went thru the registry & deleted EVERY reference to AVG I could find. After another RE-BOOT I again downlowded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5.1.43 and RE-booted, the problem returned with the halts for entry point to Engine.DLL (see Here http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=07012007175331jq8.jpg ). I went to SisoftSandra for running processes and don't see anything unusual but not 100 % sure see below:
