    Hi,

in AVG 8, which is still in beta, they have removed AVG Antimalware and AVG Antivirus is including antispyware too.

Since where on AVG 8, what will the difference be from AVG 8 Free to the paid version?

And the picture is small, yes. Give us a bigger one

this does mean that all their users will get the spyware detection as well.
or maybe the free version will still have no spyware detection but all the paid versions with have the antispyware protection?
other wise the only reason to buy it is to be able to update more than once a day.

Its possible the free version may still not get spyware detection, but one cannot be sure just yet. In any case, this was just as I had anticipated: Given that AVG 8 features a new unified engine; there was just no point to separate the Anti-spy features anymore given that AVG 7.5 Pro already did detect PUPs. Given the very insignificant price difference between AVG Pro and Anti-Malware, it was inevitable that these two products would have their features merged at some point in the future.

Now, I think that the free version will either have the EXPLabs scanner, or spyware detection, though rootkit detection may be a bit limited.

    Hi firecat,
i was hoping in the end avg would have unified engine so the user would just buy avg knowing it has all the features. avg has to work out what they will take out for the free version. i know enough people who use avg free which most of them dont know what they are doing and could be infected and dont know it.
ive just imaged my system so im gonna try avg 8.0 beta release candidate.

Do you think the new engine in AVG 8 is better than Ewido's engine used in AVG Anti-Malware??

Why isn't AVG Free listed? I wanted to see what AVG Free would be missing compared to bought versions. Oh, well. Time will show.

Do you have to sign up as a beta user before using your current license? Also I wonder if the Custom Install is still available? I don't use Spam or E-Mail protection in my current AVG 7.5 ISS.

If they only remove the rootkit part that would just be perfect for the Free version.

Although i expect they will properly remove the webshield as well.
Which will still be good if the Anti Spyware is up to standard.
