    Hi,

    Firstly, i cannot get AVG to run, to post this on the AVG forum... (Catch 22)

    Can anyone help me with an installation error that i keep getting when i try to use AVG Free 7.0.My computer is a Dual-Boot system for Windows XP Home SR2 and Windows 98SE.

    And it on 98SE that i am trying to install the updated AVG 7.0. I have tried three times to install it, and every time i keep getting the same error message " Your installation of AVG is damaged. Please re-install AVG".

    This i have tried three times, the first time i had to repair AVG everytime i wanted to use it, even after updating it.
    The second installation, i did after using Remove All Files, and rebooting and then by using CTRL, ALT, Delete, i stopped most programs from running before trying the installation again, And again the error came up again, i did a repair of AVG, and an update. But, after rebooting the computer the error message came back again.

    The third time i installed it, i first un-installed AVG, then i used Find All Files to remove all items of AVG, i then backed up my Registry. And then removed all items in the Registry that were anything to do with AVG, i then reboted my computer.I then tried the re-installation of AVG again, and after another reboot, i got the computer running again. And on the splash screen that came up for AVG, i got the error come up again.

    Does anyone know what is causing this problem, as i have looked on the forum, but i cannot find anything that could be causing it. Also, for information purposes i am also using the following software:

    Ad-Aware SE
    a2
    Zonealarm
    ID-Blaster
    SpywareGuard
    Spyware Blaster
    MRU-Blaster
    Rainlendar

    The version of AVG i am using to install is avg70free_298a417.exe.
    And another problem i have with this crummy piece of software, is that i cannot use Mailwasher to check my mail.
    Because, AVG checks my incoming mail, and stops the mail from being received.. :mad:

    Thanks in advance.

    Gary

    Looking at the AVG support forum, a number of people seem to have had the same problem but as yet no solution has been posted.

    I would try the following;

    1. Remove the current version of AVG.

    2. Use a trial copy of a good Registry Cleaner such as RegSupreme to clean out all debris; http://www.macecraft.com/downloads/

    3. Reboot. Download a FRESH copy of AVG 7.0 as the previous installation files may have been corrupt.

    4. Monitor this fresh install with the free program Total Uninstall; http://www.snapfiles.com/get/totaluninstall.html so if you have problems again in anyway, you should be able to remove AVG fairly cleanly.

    If the above does not work, think about reverting back to the previous version or considering another free AV such as Avast or AntiVir;
