They have actively came out and said they were selling your private info if you use the free version. I won't support a company that does that.
Install location doesn't matter. Preferable is Program Files for 64bit, but it'll still be the same program if you install it to Program Files x86 or any other location. So I don't know why you're making a big deal out of it or even uninstalling the product.
Most of all the others vendors do the same thing with free versions, its their way to make money, but in fact there is nothing wrong with AVG privacy policy. I think you are to paranoid then to use a freebie http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2471768,00.asp
Well, with avast! you can actually opt out of the data sharing with 3rd parties. Yes, it's enabled by default, but you can untick the setting without having to also ditch CommunityIQ cloud dedicated to collective threat finding. Which is nice.
The only reason it's being discussed is because AVG has a 64 bit installer and it's still not clear why if it installs the same 32 bit executables.
If it works on 64bit system, then it has them. There is no physical way to run 32bit drivers on a 64bit system. That's how you know.
Currently trying AVG. Seems light. How is the protection nowadays? Like Avast, I have blocked outbound connection for avgui. And no ads & no paid modules like FW, etc... on the GUI. Seems to work fine.
I updated from AVG Free Edition 2015 almost two months ago on Windows XP Home SP3 (32-bit) but first I had to run the AVG access reset tool, clean Windows Installer data and delete old registry entries manually. I finally got the installer at CNET.com downloads to work. When I run a Whole Computer scan it takes half a day to run but so far I haven't had any false positives. I am interested to know how well the 64-bit version works since I need to upgrade.

Wondering what the existing opinions are of existing users of AVG 2016 products are. Would be interested in your feedback. Sincerely...Securon
I am currently running a trial of AVG Internet Security on my laptop. It seems to be working fine, with little or no impact on the machine. I do have a question, however. Does anyone know if it is possible to password protect AVG's settings? If that option is available, I am not seeing it. Thanks in advance for your help.
