    Hi,

I have windows XP (SP3) and a DSL connection (16Mb) with the latest version of Avast Internet Security (without the firewall).

With webshield off my speed is around 16.5 Mb
With webshield on my speed is around 8.5 Mb

Is there a way to use webshield in Avast without such a decrease of my internet speed?

    Thanks,
    Atomas31

Are you running the Web Shield with default settings?

Yes! But for now, I have uncheck the Scan Web (HTTP) traffic and that seems to resolve the speed issue... :'(

This is incorrect!, you can run a speed test 100 times and get 100 different results, it all depends on traffic

Yes on Windows XP you will notice a slowdown on anything that tries to filter network traffic, but I highly doubt it would be as severe as 50%, more like 5%. But that could depend on what kind of processor you have.

On Vista/7 avast should (hopefully) be using the Window Filtering Platform API like MSE does. Unfortunately, this doesn't exist on Windows XP.
