I'm personally running Avira, but I'd have no qualms about running Avast. They're both great AVs, I just prefer the GUI of Avira better.

No question! Avast needs an updated look 'n feel.

Its gaining important features and its detection is getting better day by day. The malware URL blocker incorporated in the network module is an added plus.

Yes, and a new GUI will come in version 5 of avast. I'm looking forward to that.

Version 5 is coming who knows when and the ugly face is becoming older and older.

I never understood why they don't just release an updated skin that's slightly more professional. I personally have skins disabled so it doesn't affect me. But it wouldn't be hard to redesign a new skin as an 'in the meantime' approach. They could even ask the author of the silhouette skin for permission to use it as the base skin in the free edition.

There is quite few "professional" skins in the skin section tbh. Ever looked there?
    There is also skinless interface.

I actually have a certain amount of difficulty trying to understand why some members of a security forum such as this one are concerned over something so minor as a skin, or the appearance of the GUI.
I'd expect that on Cnet, maybe.
The skin I use looks OK; I've grown to like it and I guess I'll miss it (for a time) when 5 comes out.
The function of the program, however, that's what's important.

    @ Rejzor and Tarq
the first thing about the skin is not what hinders people to use a certain program but it is a sign of neglect from AVAST team and i think they must do some changes on it immediately
All the skins really suck as far as my tastes but i am just one of those who don't like them
Avast is a very good product and it is not allowed to say the best among the free ones. as far as the paid version?
The guys should really think over their sales policies and drop their prices . It is way too expensive

i think avast should just change the default to be simple user interface.
then no one would get confused.

Well, thats what they decided to do with interface. Half of skins are actually made by non professional designers/users. Except those made by Sasha.

But as we promised before, when avast! 5 hits the streets, the whole GUI thing will change. Because their still not fully finished skin looks absolutelly awesome.
I can't post images yet because they are still working on it and may undergo major design changes but their current draft is really great.
Be patient and you'll all be surprised :D :ninja:

Since I have the Pro version I get to use the Enhanced User Interface. But truth be told is that I very seldom look at it. The last time I remember looking at it when I was first setting avast! up. Since then I have been letting it do it's thing, blocking malware and scanning every Saturday morning.

But I am looking forward to v5 :)

Sometime next year i guess. There is no dates set even for avast! 5 release, let alone beta testing. When it'll be available we'll be otified on avast! forums as usual.

the skin discussion again ... sometimes i wonder if same amount of 'useless' whine would happen if Avast! install by default use skinless simple interface

and who don't know what i speak about should stop comments about skins :)

because i'm lazy and don't want spam the thread with pictures look there to understood
