    Anyone else getting this popup?

It pops up after it tells you avast! has been updated.

No update or definition information, No mixture of both information and Advertisement, just 100% full advertisement.

This is what I mean (Update notification):

Please don't turn this into an A vs B thread, I was just simply pointing out the awkward placement of advertising in avast! and wanted to hear feedback from other avast! users.

Haven't seen an ad popup yet from Baidu, nor AVG. so not all free AVs are similarly affected. Haven't seen an update either from Baidu in 3 days. :)

Yep, mine does the same thing, But no update information is displayed (Like it would in past notifications).

If advertising is needed, they could of at least implemented definition information above the advertisement or something.

I don't want to start an A vs B thread, but you are trying to say that probably because you want mods to delete my comment, what? didn't like it? i'll say clear now: avast sux, it always had mediocre file detection and now mse got an ad-free leverage over the free industry.

If my reply seemed somewhat rude, my intentions where not to be...please know that.

But, comments like that do end up turning into an A vs. B thread, I know because I've started a few of those myself in the past.

and FWIW, I don't want mods to delete your comments.

Oh boy, I've got to comment now:

    1. Avast! does not suck because of a small popup ad.
    2. It is not mediocre in protection, it has been increasing since version 5. Check AV-Comparatives/AV-Test. Avast! has been doing well, while MSE has been near the bottom.
    3. Other free AVs were mentioned in this thread without ads.

Sorry if that seemed to make this A vs. B, but I couldn't stand his ludicrous statement.

I got the same announcement box with avast! today, but I don't find it bothersome except for the lack of update (version no.) information. I think the update popups can be turned off in the settings, for those who don't want to see them. (Settings-> Popups, set duration to 0 on Update Popups).

I don't see how can one consider that an 'advertisement'. It's just a notification about a prize for some competition, you can win, you can not win. It doesn't even mention upgrade now/buy now/get a discount anywhere.

That is incorrect. Setting value to 0 (zero) will make the popups remain on the screen forever which is the opposite of what you want.

    Got to:
Settings -> Updates -> Scroll down to Details and extend the panel

Uncheck "Show notification box after automatic update"

This will disable VPS update notifications and also all advertising notifications.
I prefer my AV completelly silent (disabled the above and also all the sounds) and i haven't got a single ad ever since i can remember. It doesn't work if you'd still like to have VPS notifications (green popups).

I am somewhat sure it depends on country. I remember in US it used to show pop-ups like these. I haven't heard about them here in Estonia tho.

I noticed this pop up too and wasn't sure what to make of it as I disabled sound on avast. It's there for about 20 seconds and if that's the only price I pay for using their AV then I don't really mind.

Just got that...funny thing how people love to pick up on small things and say "avast sux" when there are many results to showing excellent performances in terms of protection against widespread and 0-day stuff, but who cares,I dont

Doesnt bother me in the slightest.1 click and its gone.
I prefer to see the pop up then i know avast is updating ok.

Considering avast give us this great av for free i think they are entitled to issue just 1 advertisement.

Doesn't matter. I don't like seeing software with any kind of promotions/adds. I don't mind so much during installs but not when the program is actually running.

My update notifications are back to normal now.

The "AD" was only for a day and there are only 2 updates a day minimum so its not such a big deal.

    Mine as well

If they do it once and a while, then I'm okay with that.

It just shows that Avast is still kissing Google. I don't recommend Avast. It installs chrome whenever there's a program update. Not a good practice.

Well, it asked me about Chrome and I unchecked both options.
    You didn't get that window?
