    Oh thanks.

    BSOD is a bad symptom for sure.

    Is it more effective not to partner Avast free with ZoneAlarm and then go with one or the other?

    It strikes me that trying to layer using suites with many features is difficult.

    What do you guys think?

    people are experiencing bsod even without ZA installed, atleast did so for me in version:7. Haven't tried version:8 for obvious reasons :)

    Hi L!

    Yes, BSOD's have many causes for sure.;)

    And yes it is obvious why you haven't tried V8 (I read your sig)

    The more I work this field with the masses (not all you Wilders guys) the more I think a suite for them is "best". The suite designers will always know more than the average user.

    A matter of taste and personal preference. I would go with just one of the two. Both provides excellent protection.

    This is the very reason I left Avast! quite some time ago. I had never had a BSOD until Avast! updated - then wham.......shook me up a little. I have little faith in it and will not install it again.

    The latest version of Avast is quite stable, at least based on our telemetry data. Certainly the best Avast ever, based on this metric.

    Give it a try.

    Thanks

    I'll pass. Crisis of confidence, but I'll continue to observe user sentiment.

    Considering what all security apps you also use, you can't blame avast! alone for it. I never got any unjustified BSOD from avast!. And when i did, it was a bug and they fixed it. That was during one beta cycle...
    We'd need more info to tell more and trust me, avast! team always makes sure they get rid of BSOD's as they are always TOP priority to be fixed.

    Right! two suites with two AV's are a no-no for sure:D

    But what do you use yourself? Like me your signature on tools here is blank.:thumb:

    I use OP_FW Pro 8.0 in combo with Nod32 6.0.316.0. Mutully excluding each other. ;)

    Sorry I cannot be specific.... many of them. More regularly, at least recently: ZA, WSA, Avast, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, G-DATA. And yes, just one at a time. They are all good security tools.

    @VLK;
    Can you check this;
    Malware show strong behaviour but Avast sandbox cant dedect it. (also signature/evo-gen cant dedect)

    Re: Avast Free Antivirus 8.0.1483.73

    Who on earth in their right state of mind will download 6000 pieces of malware.?
    Im lucky if i come across 6 pieces never mind 6000.

    These tests are becoming more pointless by the day.People are confronting the chosen av with thousands of malware and then criticize it if it doesnt detect all of them.
    For goodness sake the average user will never ever come across that amount of malware in their entire lives.

    If some people want to pop their corks by bombarding an av with all that junk then feel free.
    These tests are totally irrelevant to safe home user.

    I didnt release result as "Av test result". I am not AV testing organization. I didnt say anything about Av dedection performance/av comparative.

    I post it forum because ReJzor asked something;
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=2220396&postcount=48

    Btw 63/6000 bypass is very good score. Avast caught %99 malware. I searched malware which can able to bypass Avast sandbox for ReJzor and i find it.

    I ask to VLK "why avast sandbox cant dedect 1 malware which is show strong behaviour." dont "Why 63 malware bypass avast!"
    This malware create files on system folders, delete itself. SS warn me about AntiNetworkSpy....

    and because "For goodness sake the average user will never ever come across that amount of malware in their entire lives.", your word.
    Av-comparatives test Avast with 1.500.000+ malware, What a useless test, right!!!

    Well I'm not sure why being specific is a problem. o_O

    Others are here.:thumb:

    Anyway to set an example myself I'll be specific for my own tools.

    So I'll do that now. :cool:

    Is it possible to use the free version of Avast but pay for the Secureline vpn?

    Does anyone have any info on the Secureline vpn, too? Trustworthy, secure?

    Also, are there any coupon codes for the vpn so I can try it out?

    Running 8.0.1488 here (updated via the Avast GUI from the prior rev - .1483, I think). Running *very* smoothly. I don't use all the features, but for basic protection, it's hard to beat.

    Vlk - your positive, helpful attitude (here and in the Avast forums) is always appreciated. You never get flustered, no matter how critical your audience is. And in your blog, you've shared some really interesting insights into R&D work your team at Avast is doing. Thanks for your contribution to the community. (Tell your boss you deserve a raise ;) )

    Re: Avast Free Antivirus 8.0.1483.73

    I've just installed Avast Free on one PC I'm in charge of. Nice impressions. It seems to be lighter then the previous AV.

    Could someone clarify does a user need "Mail Shield" if he doesn't have an email app and access his email directly through web site?

    Thank you.

    If you have no email client on your pc then there is nothing to shield.

    But don't forget that connecting to any site has it's own risks so the usual rules for safe surfing apply.
