I have take a look at the AV comperative, and confirms my doubts about avast.

Alwil have still to do an detection rates improvement.

When that job is done, I think avast is a great AV with a lot of potential. ;)

On the other hand, the support from avast is one (or maybe already) of the best there is, a lot of the so called "great brothers" can learn from avast how support should be.

    Ciao,

    Smokey

I agree with you on Avasts! future Smokey, if they work hard and dont do anything daft then I truly believe that Avast! Antivirus definately has the potential to be right up there with the big boys.

    :)

I got rid of AVG on Friday and downloaded AVAST. So far so good but it did detect a false positive [I think] when I did a scan. [refer to my post in Viruses & worms]. I have a lot to learn about this software but will give it a try for awhile and see for myself how well it works. There are a lot of features it has that I prefer to say, AVG. Even a giant like Norton has let me down on more than one occasion. I guess there is nothing that is 100% foolproof. Personally, I do not feel too vulnerable with a freebie because my ZoneAlarm Pro also has anti-virus features. Along with this & my OE mail rules properly configured goes a long way towards decent computer safety. Touch wood - I appear to run a very clean computer & only my lack understanding occasionally can be a tad of a problem. Cheers, Peaches

Unfortunately I still am a rookie over there. My Avast! Pro version works perfectly and that could be a reason for me being a newbie over there... :D ;)
