Woohoo, NG Technology finally rolling out!
can't wait to see trueindian's first review
Though NG Technology is not fully operational yet and it only works on native host. You can't test avast! 2015 in virtual machines anymore. Well, you can but without NG tech.
I can see a whole lot of not good with this. How many people that have the free version of avast! will try to optimize their systems for free and then find out the system will not boot or actually become unusable like people have already posted on the avast forum?
System Optimizers are snake oil IMHO.
Damn! My chipset does not support Hardware virtualization
OK thanks Rej for info, noted.
More new names, how many can they come up with
I suppose it won't cause much harm if it doesn't try to automate anything and you have the option to just let the little bugger sit there lonely and unused. I think Avast is getting known for adding in these sorts of things though, so I don't see it going away. If I remember right, the last few release of this have allowed you to deselect all the extras in a custom install.
Dont worry everything isnt up yet there is still dyna-gen to come.If you vista+ then you wont need HW.Its ONLY needed with all 64 bit systems and win 8 and 8.1.Win XP support is also coming.
Avast! can still somehow turn it on programatically.I had win8 system here with no HW and I still got NG option in custom install.NG is just a 30% side kick to normal deepscreen and there is still dyna-gen and some stuff to come that will make up for rest.
NG Technology is not "new", it has been in development for nearly a year if not more.
agreed this is why i stopped using avast. imo if they would stop adding all this extra junk in it i would still be a avast user to be honest. it just drove me nuts with every update came more and more uneeded extras. i wish they would release a stripped down version without any nags to try to get paid users to install more junk. maybe release a gamer type version like some companies do.
As long as you can uncheck these, i don't see a problem.
I don't think it would be a problem with an experienced user but I can see people who are computer novices look at this "Grimefighter" as a easy way to speed up their PC's which many times does the exact opposite. With the number of users of avast! out there, putting Grimefighter in the GUI as default and then advertising it as a junkware/system tuner is going to lead to a lot of problems IMHO.
If u cand to a custom install, than its ur fault. they give u a option. i dont get ur logic. u stop using it cuz its a bloat software? simply do a costum install. with a costum install avast is maybe the lightes out the from the free avs. even lighter then avira.
I must say that I'm very interested in the NG tech, I suppose you can compare it with the Sandboxie "multiple sandbox" feature? Or is it even more advanced and secure because it is using hardware based virtualization?
Old sandbox used by AutoSandbox or DeepScreen was the equivalent of Sandboxie. What NG offers is full scale OS emulation like VirtualBox, VirtualPC or VMWare.
It does sound interesting, but I wonder if it is a good idea, I mean what about the overhead? But now that I think of it, Avast NG will of course not fire up a whole new virtualized OS, so I guess I need to see it to believe it.
yes you can do a custom install. but then when i dont install many of the things afterwards it was nagging me to install those i omitted. it was very annoying. thats what i meant.
It's not the same way as virtual machines that run the entire time and consume fixed amount of RAM. It's the same here but sort of dynamically allocated only what is invoked by the malware inside.
and again this is what i agree with. if im installing it fine. (although i had it nag me about stuff i omitted this was on a paid lic also fyi) but for the normal consumer who either downloads and simply clicks install or sticks the disc in and again lets it install the whole thing they dont know to click custom and what to uncheck.
I hope it's possible to turn off the avast nag stuff in version 2015. It makes no sense to remember me 3 times a day to install grimefighter, please accept that I don't want to install this useless thing.
It was always ways behind what sandboxie offers - feature wise and security wise.
As far as I see apps are now fully virtualised. (this is a little bit like sandboxie...but without some efforts). No OS is virtualised.
first world problems. im sorry i dont understand ur point. i would just click the popup aways. its 1 sec work. but each there own. humans these days realy got angry to fast for no reason. have a nice day/night.
