Windows Defender aim to be the new PCmatic, an anti-exe disguised as an AV
it is easy to have high score when you block everything :argh:

You can say that again. Back to running Windows 10 after bringing it current and it takes a fast hand to put my USB Pens to Exclusion List in WD before it snatches up a good chunk of it and have to backtrack to restore them. I must say they are on a mission alright and frankly it's been long overdue they tighten up something enough to finally fill in all the swiss cheese holes it sported for many years.

If that means blocking everything? They're doing it :p

I've never had WD detect anything, FP or not, on my machines.

Im not using any AV anymore;disabled WD for good, and "oh surprise" my system responsiveness improved drastically.

Most "resident" members here could go without AV easily.

In my backtracking I have turned off Real-Time and Cloud and just like any AV I ever used before, dropping those improved responsiveness and most noticeably. And how right you are most Wilder's long time hats really need nothing of the sort, especially with the electrified fence third party fill ins that make up most if not all gaps (granularly) and are extremely user friendly with active non-stop developer's support on site right here.

BullGuard scoring 100% again after quite a while. I guess they've been tuning their Sentry Behaviour Blocker. Good to see.

Bitdefender and Kaspersky both scored 100% detection with 0 FPs :thumb:

I usually get similar results when disabling WD.

Yep, it is a fact despite what the fanboys claims, i see the same results with 3 different machines, each of different specs.

I have my doubts....there are no news about their behavior blocker in the chancelogs. in other tests I only see the bitdefender sigs are fighting...Sentry is sleeping

In this case, all BD engine products would have reached 100%, but we didn't see that this time. :)

The BullGuard website now advertises for the 19.0 (2019) release that the Sentry receives continuous daily updates. I have observed some modifications to the Sentry files in recent releases. Take it with a grain of salt and let us know your experiences with this "enhanced" Sentry (according to BG anyway).

I guess some regidents already lost an interest in those tests or generally in detection rates tho it still makes sense for majority of Windows' user. Sooner or later one will find attack surface reduction (not WDEG feature) is a better way than depending on AV. Default-deny which often means default-deny-execution is a part of access control, and access control is a part of ASR.

You can still be infected by supply-chain attack which I had talked with Rasheed several years ago here when nobody else showed much interest. Later the CCleaner incident seemed to make a panic. I'm not sure about how much value AV gives on this. My advice is, use only really needed software - do not pile up even security software unnecassary, I confess I once did but never anymore. These days I use Macrium RD like an rollback software as the restore doesn't take 10 min. This allows me to use even some needed software as temporal install. It's not only for security, but may help to reduce damage in case of infection, or may not.

I fear much more on social engineering and other privacy leakage. Not talking about rediculous "You got infected" popup, nor Faithlessbook.

Security is never all about malware (but I appreciate those who engage in malware research), but it is also not all about network security.

Yesss! I have 2 laptops -- 1 with AVs, 1 without. If I dump all AVs, I won't have much reason to visit Wilders. So... I still use AVs on 1 machine. Hey... how 'bout them Panda bears!!!
