Hi, like every year, I kindly ask you to take our survey on SurveyMonkey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2TH8Q2Q The results of the survey will be shown likely in January 2017. Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays! (P.S.: posted in this subforum for relevance [as it is about anti-malware products] and to get more attention).
Thanks! btw, please feel free to give the link to other friends or forums - more users, more interesting answers
Done. "Which desktop security solutions would you like to see in our yearly public main-test series?" I suggested "Cylance Protect" but I think I've read it's in the pipeline.
Cylance is still business license only, no? From what I've seen, it's A: pretty impressive, B: has a great rep in the corporate security community and C: Prohibitively expensive to use on a home system.
You can find individual licence here: https://www.malwaremanaged.com/products/mps_home_smb Expensive yes, right, but if you buy antivirus + anti malware - KAV + MBAM for example ... above USD70. For the moment, not yet compatible with W10 anniversary. In contact with "MalwareManaged" (a very responsive and cordial contact), I await news from them for the next release.
I've googled it and it seems very impressive indeed:Artificial Intelligence, no signatures, light on resources, apparently it catches everything, and $55 per machine is expensive but not prohibitively though... https://www.scmagazine.com/cylanceprotect/review/7028/
Definitely need to research them more. Apparently on one of their product demos, the tests they ran were against rival products with most of the important protection turned off. Sophos, in the particular case I read. Still, it would be interesting to read up on them. Looks like they're a webroot-esque program.
The results of the AV-C Security Survey 2017 released today = https://www.av-comparatives.org/security-usage-surveys/
Indeed, I am surprised to see Qihoo so low, it appears to be the best AV in terms of detection/performance. But then again due to its "cheating", it was excluded from tests, which 75% people tightly follow, so that is that.
With all the criticism and privacy issues, Win 10 is very popular at least among people with some interest in computer security, almost 60% of users... Also surprising is the popularity of Eset throughout the world, first place in Asia is a remarkable result. Kaspersky and Bitdefender are obviously very popular because of their excellent results in tests. Of course these statistics reflect a very small percentage of users...
So it looks like it does well on tests, but it's been proven that it cheated on tests to make it look better. And you wonder why people don't trust it or use it? And yeah, sorry, but a Chinese AV from a shady company will add to the concerns and speculations.
I rather use Chinese software than US/EU based, because of privacy concerns, it does great in ransomware tests with its own engine, not to mention it uses popular BD as well. https://www.youtube.com/user/cruelsister1/search?query=qihoo - Even well known brands fail against several months/years old ransomware. As for tests and cheating, you think that all those AV test companies are clean? Think again. It is all about money, the more you pay, the better results you get. Real world tests show otherwise.
There is always the possibility to produce results according to pay and play, but with AV Comparatives for example, Symantec has always got excellent results with dynamic tests but average results with other compulsory tests. Symantec has a lot of money to promote their products, they could easily pay to have some tests doctored, but because they don't wish to be tested in a comprehensive way they pulled out from AV Comparatives. What do you mean by "real world tests show otherwise"?
