Is it useless, or not? To install, let's say, WD VelociRaptor 600GB 10000 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s? I mean 10k? Is it goog for SAS only, or for SATA as well?
The site at WD of the VelociRaptors: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=20 Reviews can be clicked from there. Two examples (from about a year ago), (with discussions): http://www.storagereview.com/western_digital_velociraptor_review http://techreport.com/articles.x/18712/1 PS: Actually I have been thinking about it if and when I might buy a (much needed) new computer and if I can afford it (...). (Maybe with an Asus mobo P8Z68-V PRO: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68V_PRO/ I haven't yet decided however.) But I don't want to hijack your thread. A good friend of mine is using several (probably older) VelociRaptors.
If me, and buying new, I would not waste my money on 10K drives. They are loud, noisy, and crank out some BTUs. I would get an SSD for my boot drive, and a good 7200 drive with a large buffer, or perhaps a hybrid (SSD) buffer for all my apps and data.
Thanks Bill. Actually I was hoping that you would reply What is BTU? (Isn't "loud" the same as "noisy" here? ) Any suggestions for a reliable and very good SSD? Thanks in advance !
Noise does not have to be loud. BTU - British Thermal Units - it is how heat output of furnaces are rated. Best SSDs for the Money July 2011
Thank you guys. I didn't mean any particular brand or model. I'm asking about "RPM". More than "7200"? 10k or 15k?
