are there any truly free password managers for windows. i have seen many posts recommending password managers, but they have mostly been online effectively holding your passwords to ransome unless you paid a subscription fee. i have been a longtime roboform user, but now the licensing has to rentware. are there any good FREE alternatives.

LastPass is free, as long as you don't need mobile phone stuff. For a Desktop browser, it is free.

KeePass is free as well. Not as 'user friendly' as LastPass, but close. There is also an Android version that will read/write v1.x databases, or just read v2.x databases.

Ditto on the S10 Password Vault - less than 1MB download and runs under 2MB in memory. Just right-click on any login page to auto-login. After you set it up, you'll be amazed how easy it works, and it works every time.

After a lot of hesitation and reading, I loaded up Lastpass, and love it. I don't run javascript as a general rule, so Firefox has NoScript in it, and Lastpass works great. It really is awesome.

I'm having trouble with Chrome though. It seems I have to allow javascript for the page I want to use Lastpass on -- not horrible, but not perfect.

Opera seems even worse. I have to globally allow javascript to use Lastpass -- not good.

My hope was 'all my passwords in all my browsers', but I got 'all my passwords in Firefox, most in Chrome, and none in Opera.

Maybe someone has a workaround, but I haven't found it yet.

The Lastpass auto-fill makes it very easy to log in though. I really like Lastpass.

Why don't you trust LastPass anymore? I'm just curious. 'Trust' as in 'secure data' or as in 'rely on the app to dependably work'?

I think nothing is wrong there, it's just a matter of personal preferences..

I prefer keepass, I just went from 1x to 2x because 2x is better at stopping keyloggers not that 1x can't.

LastPass can work for free on mobile phones with mobile browsers such as Opera Mini. Just use the bookmarklets: http://helpdesk.lastpass.com/bookmarklets/

LastPass is the best free (and paid) option IMO.

I'm a KeePass fan- I use it on my Windows PCs, my Macs, my iPhone, iPad and Android (Samsung) phone. Couldn't live without it. No security issues like LastPass.
