and if it where free that is a bonus, am running spyshelter and panda cloud at the moment
If you're using Windows 7, the built in firewall is quite enough.
ok, but i dont feel to comfortable with the built in firewall so was looking for somthin else
Maybe Privatefirewall? It's free and very light on my system. And if you want somewhere to learn about it, this is always a good place to start with.
Didn't we just do the same topic?
Probably... it's done about once a month...
Why exactly are you uncomfortable with the W7 firewall?
I'm XP so I'm in the dark. But I've heard whispers that you don't have control over outbound? Yes / No ?
My motive for asking is I want to feel that LnS will still be needed when I finally switch. Its a sentimental thing.
I thought that's only true for xp.....win7 fw is good enough....
FYI. Stem's tutorial: Windows XP firewall
Try Softperfect Personal Firewall or GhostWall Firewall, should be light and have more features than Windows XP Firewall.
The No#1 Hall of Famer is Kerio 2.1.5. If you google it you will find pages of info on how to 'tweak it' even to this day. Google e.g. kerio ruleset or kerio 2.1.5
That may or may not run on Vista or Win 7 though... On XP it's fine..... I have never tried it on anything newer than XP....
The next release of Panda Cloud includes a built-in firewall
you're right.. Xp is the end of the line for Kerio.
I believe Sunbelt Personal Firewall, also discontinued albeit more recently, is the successor of Kerio.
Is FortKnox totally free? On their webpage it says "FortKnox Personal Firewall Free Firewall Download", but it shows in the purchase section too with the "Buy Now" button next to it...
BTW, @J_L you are correct, Kerio turned into Sunbelt Personal Firewall, now both are gone.
You may want to search this forum as I believe Fort Knox had a 6 month trial promo. After the trial I believe the firewall changes to a restricted free version. Anyway, there was some concerns raised about the firewall at one point as I believe there was a port always left open by default or something to that effect, not sure at this moment.
Thank you very much. Have you used Fort Knox?
I used it on/off for a few months last year. It was quite buggy, and slow to respond.
No, I was going to try it but just never got around to it. Then the security issue turned me off as I don't recall if there was a fix for that or not.
Just out of curiosity I installed Kerio 2.1.5 firewall. Do you or anyone else know how to disable the splash screen ? And no, the following website does not work anymore which had a tool to disable the splash screen -http://www.brightnova.com/kpf/
