With this feature, users can technically block access to the application, thus making it harder for those who may be able to unlock the device to read their conversations.
In other words, if you previously configured Face ID or Touch ID only to prevent others from reading your messages, you can now disable it and set up the locking system for WhatsApp specifically.

Also worth knowing is that this feature only restricts access to the app. Notifications and message previews are still displayed, so for full privacy, you may want to disable these too.
Similar feature in rival WhatsApp apps
While this is without a doubt a feature that would come in handy to many iPhone users, it’s been around for a long period of time on several popular WhatsApp alternatives.

Oh sweet irony. A little respected privacy setting asking advertisers and sites to not track users can be used as a fingerprinting mechanism, Apple has said, and will thus be removed from its Safari web browser.

The change was noted in the release notes for Safari Technology Preview 75, posted on Wednesday.
Since Do Not Track's inception, it has been labelled as a great idea in theory, but abysmal in practice.

The publication uncovered a dozen hardcore porn-peddling apps and 12 real-money gambling apps - all a big no-no on iOS - that have managed to get past the App Store's digital bouncers by pretending to be enterprise apps for internal company use.

By simply filling out an online form and paying $299 to Apple, developers can have their apps certified as part of Apple's enterprise programme, which allows them to be effectively 'sideloaded' onto iOS without needing to go through the App Store. Such a programme is designed to allow businesses to run internal enterprise apps on iOS.

But it looks like it needs to police its programme a bit more through given the apps that have bypassed the App Store.

The beta releases of iOS 12.2 and Safari 12.1 on macOS High Sierra and Mojave include an updated version of the WebKit Intelligent Tracking Prevention (ITP) feature that will further decrease trackers’ ability to trace user identities across websites.
Persistent client-side cookies capped to 7 days
Starting with this updated version of ITP, cookies will be blocked automatically in third-party contexts, while existing cookies stored by websites and new cookies will be blocked after 30 days if the user has not returned to interact with the site.

Additionally, browsers using a WebKit engine with Intelligent Tracking Prevention 2.1 will also cap "all persistent client-side cookies, i.e. persistent cookies created through document.cookie" to seven-day expiry deadline.
