They should have never ever have pre-installed the plugin in the first place. Really any instance in which you're forced to use Java applets is the result of software and website developers being lazy in my own opinion. After what we've seen in just the past couple of months not even counting previous issues, Java should be discarded and left behind.

I totally agree I have OS X latest 10.8.2 MT Lion - safari, I had to uncheck stinky Java. Java will never see the light of day on any of my windows machines.

If you're referring to browsers, I don't believe any of them have been dumb enough to include the plugin for years now. Now if we can just get the alternative office software vendors like OO and Libre to stop being lazy and get moving with their word about replacing Java for certain functions, we'll be closer to getting the thing buried in the ground where it belongs.

While I don't use a Mac or any of it's software, I have been Java free on my W7 machine for over 2 years and can count on one hand the number of times I couldn't view/use a website, and when it did happen, I just moved on. At work I unfortunately need it, but never at home.
