No comment on the source... The content of the news isn't surprising, but a confession like that is quite suspicious.

The source article and website appear to be satire oriented. A quick search dug up:

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/satire/fingerprints.asp
    http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/sep/27/no-nsa-iphone-5s-fingerprint-apple

Obviously, the potential for biometric (meta)data to be collected/used by manufacturers, possibly also shared with or lost to yet more parties, is there. So a satirical article and "false rumor" shouldn't cause anyone to lower their guard when it comes to such issues. The uploading of any biometric related data... raw data, a hash of said data, even metrics/analytics pertaining to how the subsystem was working... is something everyone should keep an eye out for.

It may be satire today, but tomorrow it will be reality.

The satire part, if anything, is just to ease the last of those who question that it's been reality much longer than people think.

There was quite a bit of zealots arguing the other way around. I hope they are all eating their words now.
