    Hi All

I have for a number of years used Aomei Backup Standard on Win 7, without problem. What I like about Aomei is it is relatively uncomplicated. Also, you could create a WinPE boot disk a) without having to download a large AIK installation from Microsoft. b) restore can be initiated directly from within Windows without having to use memory sticks or CDs to reboot into a PE environment.

This year (early) I upgraded to the Pro version. In addition I upgraded to Windows 10. The above features still applied even under Win 10. In August of this year the Win 10 anniversary upgrade took place on my PC apparently without problem.

Today I tried to do a restore from within Windows (Aomei Backup Pro) this did not happen I had to boot the PC with a CD to to get the recovery environment. Also I tried to create a boot CD (today) and I received a message telling me that I had to download AIK/ADK for windows 10. Yet when you follow the Aomei link to the Microsoft website Windows 10 is not listed.

On several websites I have looked at this appears to be an issue. Some forums say that you can create a boot up disk within Aomei on Windows 10, others say you have to download ADK.

What I can say is that, recently something has changed. I used to be able to create a boot CD in Win and I used to be able to initiate a restore within Windows 10 without using a CD or memory stick.

So what has changed. can anyone help. thanks.

    Terry

I don´t use AOMEI regularly, but I have tried it several times. Although it identifies the boot media as "WinPE", it really creates a WinRE, using the WinRE environment that is in the Windows installation. To create a WinRE, you don´t need to download and install WADK. So, maybe in your case there is a problem with the WinRE.

You can check the status of WinRE with the command reagentc /info. Also, if it´s disabled, you can enable it with reagentc /enable.

    Robin A.,

I checked and you are correct. AOMEI creates a WinRE (or a Linux) boot disk.

    Hi Brian K

Thanks for that. So why can Aome NOT create a WinRE boot disk from the WinRE environment that is in the Windows Installation? I used to be able to do it. How do I check the WinRE environment is OK?

    Thanks

    Terry

    Terry,

At an Admin Command Prompt enter...

    reagentc /info

What is your "Windows RE status:"?

What is your "Windows RE location:"?

    Windows 10 Home x32, version 1607 - build 14393.447

Without ADK is not possible to create the Windows PE Disk.
    See the screenshots below.

    anon,

Today I downloaded and installed the free 3.5 version. I don't have the Win10 ADK. I can make a "WinPE" UFD without seeing the message in your 2.jpg. Weird.

My Win10 is installed in UEFI mode. Ver 1607.

Same message noticed in another PC (Windows 10 Pro x64, version 1607 - build 14393.447).

    Is your AOMEI ver 3.5?

We have the same Windows version. Is yours UEFI mode?

    anon,

Your WinRE looks fine. I don't understand why we have different results.

Edit... for what it's worth try this...

    reagentc /disable

    reagentc /enable

    Hi Everyone

Thank for all your replies. It looks as though I have solved my problems, apart from one. I had to do a repair install to solve the "SFC /SCANNOW" could not complete issue. That is sorted. The problem with not being able to create a WinPE CD directly from Aomeis software (WITHOUT HAVING TO DOWNLOAD MS ADK) has been solved thanks to Brian K. The repair install did not sort it, BUT "reagent /disable" did. How and why I do not have a clue, but I can now make a Win PE CD without downloading MS ADK.

The final problem still has to be checked to see if it is resolved. That is in Aomei Backupper Standard/Pro it is possible to enact a restore from within the Windows environment. The software takes charge and reboots the PC into restore mode instead of have to use a CD or Flash drive. Hopefully it will be. I will let u know. Thanks to everone for ur help.

    Terry
