AOL Email Flag (for new mail) problems

I use AOL to connect to Internet and then use MSIE. Recently there has began a long delay from when I delete new mail and when the new mail flag decides to update. ie: If I have 6 new messages and delete all 6.....the new mail flag takes a minute or two before it will show that there is no email and then it does a slow countdown on the number of new emails....ie: 6........5........4.......so on. Also, usually the count of new emails (after they have been deleted) increases by 1 more new message (which isn't a new email) before the countdown starts. Anyone got any ideas on what to do? Aol Tech said to reset the AOL Graphics allowance down to 1mb, sign off, restart PC, start AOL, and set Graphics back up to 40mb (default setting). I did and am still having the same thing with the Flag.
