But would the old AVS still be able to update?
I notice in the new one it requires an aol.com email address.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Damn, no !!!!

AVS was such a nice and efficient AV, for free !

I guess it won't be that powerful running McAfee engine :/

By dead I mean no longer available. If you have it installed, or install it today with a working key, then it will continue to function.

Whats best of this is that it's a real f**kin' wonder to get this stupid AOL email.
Whenever i wanted to do that i got some sort of BS problems with their service.
And when i did managed to get there, they wanted far more details than i'll be ever willing to give away to anyone online. No to mention their stupid registration form nagged about ever damn thing. Telephone number for example? Why the hell do they need it? I'm using a cell phone only and i'm not giving away its number to anyone, especially not some stupid company from another continent. Lame.
    avast! and AntiVir ftw.

Thanks, EK. I downloaded the old one, but do not intend to install it. I guess that one would need a key, and if not installed today a key would not be available. I downloaded it in case someone else missed it and needed it later. Is there a way to get a key without installing the program?

    Best,
    Jerry

The link is for the new 6.0.2 version that has the update-issues, so I guess that it how they get you to drop AVS. The neverending search for an a/v that is stable on my pc starts again! Hey KAV 7 is released now...

wondering what is the reason for switching to McAfee  Probably KAV did not want to include ADs or tracking components or KAV was marketing threat for US market o_O??

Probably the contract with Kaspersky allowed AOL to distribute the program for only one year

USA still the best. But barely.
I'm guessing AOL served it's purpose for KL.

The awareness for KL is way up. They don't need AOL anymore.

I would agree with this. The chance of me going for KAV/KIS after AVS expires is 99%. This would probably be the case for a lot of other people.

    Hi Monty,
I can't find the link. Could you help?

    EDIT
I found it. "Even a blind hog finds an occasional acorn." Thanks again.

    Thanks,
    Jerry

hmm this news isn't good :( but to tell you guys the truth, i went on over to see what was up with the "new" version of aol antivirus. i'm looking over the list of features it provides and i must say they "look" impressive. antivirus, firewall, antispyware all in one package. the firewall has some IDS features too. this actually seems like an upgrade, unless mcafee antivirus really is that much inferior to KAV.

mcafee uses more rescourses and has a worse detection rate.
its like 19 processes and lots of ram usage.
also it doesnt update as much.
