It works the same everywhere, just not so officially. Companies or schools evaluates you based on your social profiles, etc, even your friends might remove you, if you like or post something, they do not agree with and it might hurt their relationship with others. China simply never plays around, you are either a good citizen or not. It might replace a social status as we know it.
Not having a Facebook profile could also hurt you, because you're either lying or are an obviously dangerous contrarian for not joining in the "game".
I was wondering about that - a potential employer or LEO assuming one is lying about not having a FB Page. I wouldn't touch FaceBook with a ten-foot pole. I assume many-most Wilders members do not have a FB page. Does FaceBook require the use of a real name? Is a FB page for a particular person searchable, either through a search engine such as Google or by a FB internal search available to members??
I don't have (or have ever had) a Farcebook profile/account. Of course, I could be lying. I'm OK though, I have a large tinfoil hat (maybe).
For me I used to see it as just another web novelty trend to come and eventually go like everything else. Remember Yahoo Messenger? That was sort of akin to yearbook, I mean fb as well as Myspace etc. The biggest difference is in the fact that these and so many others have since now been embedded within mobile wireless handsets and the rapid spread into a global phenomenon that likely is here to stay.
Yes, you can create fake profile as long as you use something that looks like a real name. Only stupid terrorists use their real name on facebook or other social media I guess if you have set your profile as "public" it is searchable in search engines.
Not using real name is against FB Tos (with some limited exceptions), and might be construed as unauthorised access to their computers.... with draconian penalties.
More like virtual death penalty It's happened to me, for sure. Not that I ever had much use for the account. But whatever, on principle.
Well, depends on the judge, but I've seen suggestions that it's real-life jail time under the ludicrous CFAA legislation. This has no room for either intent or actual damage/loss.
I did it for the lulz OK, actually to see if I could do it. But that was years ago, before they made it so hard.
"This creepy facial recognition app lets users find strangers on Facebook by taking their picture A facial recognition app that can identify strangers from a photograph has been created by a British entrepreneur. Facezam can identify people by matching a photo of them with their Facebook profile. All users have to do is take a picture of someone on the street and run it through the app, which will tell them who it thinks the person in the photo is. 'Facezam could be the end of our anonymous societies," said Jack Kenyon, founder of Facezam. "Users will be able to identify anyone within a matter of seconds, which means privacy will no longer exist in public society.'..." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...ecognition-app-users-find-strangers-facebook/
Soon we won't need government surveillance any more. People will perform surveillance over each other in public society.
No. Cellphone text authentication. And none of the simulated online cell numbers that I tried worked. But I have seen ads for systems that hold numerous SIM cards and route via VoIP, so it must be possible. I mean, criminals of various sorts market on Facebook, so there must be a way.
