Just read on The Register that some type of security research site found a way to fool antiviruses into installing it's own malware driver and in some cases, uninstall the security suite from the computer systems. A lot of Antivirus security suites have been identified to be vulnerable including ESET.

They make it sound that this very old research (back to at least 2007) still applies today. My question is if this site is even a trusted source with reliable information, or just random blog that's trying to make a profit off of its site ads. A 3 year known hole that malware creators haven't exploited seems a little impossible to me.

The so called research can be found here.
