Android 13 raises minimum system requirement to 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage

Android 13 has recently hit the streets, and with it, Google is raising the minimum requirements for Android phones. Google's latest blog post announced that the minimum amount of RAM for Android Go, the low-end version of Android, is now 2GB for Android 13, whereas previously, it was 1GB. Esper's Mishaal Rahman and Google Product Expert Jason Bayton also claim the minimum storage requirements have been bumped up to 16GB, though Google doesn't seem to have publicly documented this anywhere.

The increase in system requirements means any phone that doesn't meet the minimum specs won't be able to update to Android 13. New phones launching with Android 13 will need to meet the minimum requirements to be eligible for Play Store licensing, though launching with an older version of Android (with lower requirements) will still be an option for a while.

Android Go is a stripped-down version of Android that has some of the more RAM-intensive features turned off, and it comes with a suite of specially made, lightweight "Go" apps. Google's requirements won't affect the US market much—even devices like this dirt cheap $30 Walmart phone have 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

While these are just the phone requirements, the minimum 16GB of storage will be a great idea to roll out to every form factor in the Android ecosystem.

Android 13 is making it easier to keep work and personal data separate
Google also wants you to have a work / life balance

Android 13 has new features that aim to improve the experience of using a single device for both work and play. According to Google, Android 13’s redesigned “work profiles” build upon last year’s enhancements to keep an employee’s personal data separate from their work data and make the user experience better and more productive, all while still adhering to an IT department’s admin policies.

One improvement in Android 13 lets employees specify if an app should be opened in their personal or work profile. This can be useful to keep corporate videos out of personal YouTube watchlists, suggests Google in one example. Employees can also have two photo galleries on their devices (one for personal use and the other for work) for a more curated sharing experience with personal and business apps.

Android 13 also adds smart dictation to work profile apps for Pixel users which Google says will keep “corporate jargon dictated for work emails out of personal chats.

More features are listed as “coming soon” to Android 13. Lost Mode will allow IT admins to lock down access and locate lost or stolen company-owned devices, while Stay Private on Work Wi-Fi will automatically encrypt traffic when personal profiles are toggled by an employee for use on a company’s wireless network. And finally, employees will be able to securely manage messages, notifications, and pictures on their phones from company-issued Chromebooks.

Any details? My phone OS is based on Android 11. Launcher and share function works this way.
I suspect that Google just made some improvements to GUI here and there, not some major GUI revamp.

Google announces Android 13 (Go Edition), celebrates 250 million devices

More than five years ago, Google unveiled Android Go, a modified configuration of Android specifically designed for devices that have low memory capacity and are often constrained to smaller amounts of mobile data. Hot on the heels of this milestone, the search giant also unveiled the newest version of Android Go, called Android 13 (Go Edition). With this new release, Google said that they focused on "reliability, usability, and customization."

One of the key features of Android 13 (Go Edition) is Google Play System Updates, which ensures that devices can quickly and regularly receive important software updates. "The result is a phone that stays up to date over time — and you don’t have to wait for the next release or a software push from your phone’s manufacturer to have the latest and greatest," Google said.
