It is very encouraging to see the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization (AMTSO) advocate “Whole-Product Testing” because it “best mimics a product’s use in the real world.”

It is also noteworthy that many testing organizations support these guidelines, including: Virus Bulletin, AV-Comparatives, West Coast Labs and AV-Test.org (see Guidelines released for antivirus software tests).

Hopefully, these developments will result in an increase in the frequency and sophistication of whole-product dynamic testing and an eventual disappearance of the simplistic malware detection testing methods.
