I am a little bit an AMD fan. Got a new AMD system last year. But I discovered a disadvantage to AMD. While Intel releases microcode updates for security vulnerabilities. AMD only does so for enterprise/server CPU's. For consumer CPU's they only release an AGESA update which has to be packaged in a BIOS update by the manufacterer. So first of all you have to hope your manufacturer released BIOS updates for this, and that your machine is still actively supported by the manufacturer. Secondly, it seems that releasing a new AGESA update is harder for both AMD and the manufacturer releasing the BIOS update. The AMD Inception attack was published in the beginning of August. AMD released microcode updates for datacenter CPU's right away. They released the first AGESA updates after a few weeks for some CPU models, but it took several months for other CPU models. For Zenbleed they still even haven't released AGESA updates for every model yet.
The AGESA update for Inception my CPU was fortunately released after a few weeks. However I'm still waiting for Lenovo to release the BIOS update with the new AGESA. Even though I have a Thinkpad which are know for fast BIOS updates and long support.
In contrast, the Intel variant of my Thinkpad got a BIOS update with a microcode update for Meltdown even before Meltdown was published.
