I have been using AxCrypt from a long time because of ease of use. Lately, it has become a paid-only product. I am in search of an alternative which is as simple as AxCrypt but does not have backdoor.

It's a slimmer, sleeker version - still compatible with AxCrypt, so you can open your existing files and continue as before. It'll work fine side-by-side as well. To be 100% clear - I am the author of these programs (as well as being the original author of AxCrypt). And no, there is absolutely no backdoor.
