Throughout the ages there have been many, many shooting games. Ranging from the original Doom to newer, more graphically amazing games such as maybe Far Cry and Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30.

I know many of you are gamers; young, old, middle-aged, fetal stage, so my question to you is this:

What do you think is the greatest shooting (can be any type) game ever created thus far?

I am still partial to one of the first, Doom. Or maybe Duke Nukem, that game was a blast!

    Thief: Deadly Shadows

I like them all, I have over a 100 games installed on my PC. But one that I think needs honorable mention is Thief: Deadly Shadows. It is not your traditional FPS, by any means. Your weapon is a bow, and the emphasis is on stealth. You must select your ammunition (different arrow types) carefully before each mission. The storyline keeps you moving, and the music really sets the tone.

Some others that I enjoyed playing (that aren't listed so far):

No One Lives Forever 1 & 2 - Nice storylines, and cool weapons.
Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 - Great combat and character building
Deus Ex 1 & 2 - Engrossing storlyine, cool weapons.
America's Army - Weapons qualification requirement, teamwork
Serious Sam 1 & 2 - Mindless mayhem makes it rock
    MDK2 - Cool main character
Return to Castle Wolfenstien - Kill lots of Nazis and historic weapons

Then there is .kkrieger - chapter I:

This is a 96k 3D FPS demo that will blow you away. Gameplay is only 10 minutes, but the 3D environment from a 96k application is unbelievable.

This is why i enjoy Splinter Cell games very much. Instead of rushing in guns a blazin, you take your time and silently take the guys out. Its also kinda fun in the new one (Chaos Theory) you can knife people, or pull them off very high places, sending them to ultimate splat.

All Stealth games ive played so far I find to be very fun.

there are many free online shooting games. it depends however how high quality of a game you want/if you want it to be more 'funny' than 'serious'. Many free sites host games that can become addicing (i.e www.addictinggames.com) while others host their ideas for free to get a public opinion.

I played this one a while back, it was a bit slow and looked strange but good anyway. I dont know why the graphics looked so strange, but my PC has changed significantly since then.....I think I'll try it again. :)

It can be a bit buggy. The frame rate slows down a bit sometimes. But the textures on the surfaces are unreal.
