I like using AI for simple tasks like general search, telling me the name of an actor in a movie or defining the difference between two words. Generally speaking I am very satisfied with the results. I am only using the basic free versions of Chatgpt, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Today I read an article about inflation in Argentina using monthly inflation rates. I wanted to know what this would be in the more usual annual rate with compounding calculated. I am surprised that for such a basic math calculation I am getting three different answers of 31.9%, 32.76% and 32.92%. If I use AI for financial modelling or engineering and thinking of a compounding error, that would be a problem.
I have not used any of these services yet, but I do know that Google Search is getting more stupid. Also, when I search for stuff on YouTube (on smart TV) it's giving me mostly dumb suggestions, it's like these guys aren't using AI at all. Either that or AI is still in the stone ages.
Actually, my experience is mainly good for the stuff that I need. Search is good without the distraction of ads and hundreds of links to choose from Also, I do think every few months, there is a marked improvement but I am not using for "mission critical" info. Just was baffled that a mathematical query could pose an issue.
I use Brave Search as my search engine. When it decides to use "AI" for my searches, which is hit and miss. A question does not always trigger "AI". In fact today I posed three question to Brave Search and "AI" was not triggered. In most cases the answers are good. If what you are looking for crosses certain lines, then you get the expected narrative. All of the answers are clearly gathered from various source, they are even referenced but as it turns out sometime one or more of those references does contain anything related to your search. It's basically a nicely put together search result/summary that saves you time from having select the search links that show up below the "AI" answer.I put "AI" in quotes because to me this is not "AI" it's just a nicely improved search that avoid the advertising.
I actually did a test, I was searching for a tv show from my childhood, I forgot the name so I described it to ChatGPT and it did give me about 15 suggestions, and it was cool how it responded to me, just like a human. Only problem is that it didn't give me the correct title, eventually I found it on Google. Which leads me to the conclusion that AI isn't all that, at least not yet. It seems like ChatGPT had simply never ''seen'' this show before, so it couldn't know about it, so it really depends on the information that people have put into this database. BTW, the show was ''Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future'', see link. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092329/
Recent test: https://searchengineland.com/chatgpt-search-vs-google-analysis-449676 Google is the winner.
