A simple procedure i tried today in my laptop (i forgot to change back to ACHI in the Bios after using a tool that required to change to IDE mode and i ended up installing the OS that way) that took about 5 minutes and saved me some hours re-installing O.S and applications... i hope this will be useful to others as well.

not to mention that AHCI mode is preferred to IDE when using SSDs.

though SSDs will work fine in IDE mode.
