I could suggest a whole lot but probably notingh u havent heard of before. It all comes down to personal taste/needs/experiences/etc.

The following i recommend to most people>

AV: DrW SS(new though) or NOD or PROT
Suite: Avira or KIS or ESS
Firewall: PvtFW(buggy at least on my system but otherwise very impressive n highly underrated) or OA(Future Unknown)
    AS: SAS or MBAM(Underrated)
    AT: TR(Underrated)
HIPS: OA or DSA or SnS or PX
    Light HIPS: WP(Highly recommended)

I use Windows 7 but very similar.

Don't use any resident AV or AS application, waste of resources, especially CPU (very outdated technology and its far from perfect which means safe).

I use: UAC set to maximum, Router, Windows Firewall and DefenseWall, and on-demand scanners. This line-up doesn't slow down my system at all.

You can choose from more software firewalls for Vista I guess, Online Armor gives very good protection (HIPS) and with Sandboxie you can set aside resident AV's.
