I know it's a long time ago, but I won't forget this: Google search. https://www.computerworld.com/article/2468070/iobit-accused-of-stealing-from-malwarebytes.html. I will never trust this software/snake oil.
Your reply in post #9 to post #8 emphasized post #8, i was wondering what you where thinking about when you replied in that way.
Their software might be good, but I don't need it (Linux here). Given the fact that this is a Chinese company, which engaged in very shady practices, who knows what the CCP ordered them to put in their closed source... Therefore, I don't understand why it is promoted on a security related forum.
They can be considered somewhat untrustworthy because of the issue with Malwarebytes, that has already been mentioned. However, it's important to note that that did not steal data from users or install malware. Driver Booster is one of the better driver updaters. It has a large database of drivers and even the free version works very well. AdvancedSystem Care works quite well for what it does and is one of the very few programs of its kind that is safe to use and won't delete any nededed registry keys. IObit Uninstaller, although not anywhere as good as scanning for leftovers as HiBit or Revo, has some nice features that the HiBit and Revo don't, e.g. the Pro version can automatically monitor software installs and create a record of any files and registry keys that were created. I highly doubt the CCP ordered them to do anything. I use lots of Chinese software, including antiviruses and have no concerns.
So why did you say , Quote - "but they are not the most trustworthy company" - unquote? What more have they done? Why are they not trustworthy? I do not know about anything else besides THAT, incident, so i wonder what it is that has gone beside my radar that they have done or are doing.
I've never understood why people even use (or pay) for such software especially when they claim nonsense like "powerful tuneup utility ensures a cleaner, safer and 200% faster PC that runs like new". Typical cash grab software.
Indeed. With SSD's now, I doubt you'll notice any difference at all. And the cleaning up that Windows needs can be done with other free alternatives or even with the built in clean-up utility (cleanmgr.exe).
Such software freeware or paid is just complete smoke and mirrors (especially claiming to "BOOST" your internet speed by using their software). Isn't it ironic that the main computer shops here in England sell such software but the same IT guys, who work in the exact same shops would never use that software on their own computers. I push all new computer users to Sandboxie or Shadow Defender not system speed up / driver boosting / software updating software as I am not a ****
+1 Yeah, the only one who can BOOST my internet speed is my provider, but they only BOOST the price every year. I have to admit I used similar software myself back in the Win98/XP days, but now that I use Linux there's no need for it any more. This system is as fast as it was when I first installed it. Doesn't get bloated over time. I have a few Windows Virtual Machines and don't need or want it in them either.
Just due to the Malwarebytes incident. I fix computers and use software from IObit and others on my own computers. There is a free version of Advanced SystemCare. But there are better options for cleaning junk than either the free or paid versions of it.
Some reading on a lazy Sunday: https://www.techsguide.com/iobit-detail/ https://community.spiceworks.com/to...it-of-using-driver-booster-to-cheat-customers https://old.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/cp92oc/this_should_be_illegal_and_punished/ https://old.reddit.com/r/software/comments/ddw0ea/is_iobitadvanced_system_care_programs_malware/
It's important to note that this message only appears if you are using a cracked version of Driver Booster. It is not referring to any other driver update software that the user may have installed. I'd actually never seen this message before, but a quick Google search revealed that it is shown when you are using a pirated version. As for the comments about driver updaters being malware, that's simply not true. In the last 17 years, I've tested pretty much every driver updater ever published (I spend a lot of time testing software) and I've yet to find one that is malicious. To be clear, unless you are having issues with a device, or you have some devices with missing drivers, then there's often not much need to update drivers. As well as that, sometimes a driver updater may replace a working driver with a buggy one that causes issues, or on occasion, even an incompatible driver. So, driver update software should be used with care. But, I've yet to find any driver updater that is malicious, or downloads malware, despite what many people claim and believe me, I've spent way too many hours trying to track down every driver updater I could find. As someone who has extensive experience using IObit's products on countless computers, I can say that they are safe to use. It's worth noting that the registry cleaner in Advanced SystemCare had issues with false positives, until I reported the issues to them, and they fixed them. But since fixing them, the registry cleaner has been safe to use, unless you enable the deep scan option, which is only included in the Pro version and has to be manually enabled.
