Add and banner blockers

    while not foolproof
    just not allowing wholesale javascripts to load certainly cuts down on addvertisments :p

    besides being a good security measure in its own right
    (easy with Firefox & the noscript extension)

    Ad Muncher is great for stripping ads.

    The built in one with opera is quite nice, and so is adblock plus with the easyfilter set if you use firefox.
