My dad got rid of most of the anti spyware programs on the pc.

All we have left are Adaware SE and Spybot. He got rid of Spywareblaster, spywareguard and Spyware Terminator. So he got rid of a program that adds lots of kill bits and real time protection. This computer won't last a week.

The person you're referring to - the one who has no kill bits and such - they would still have a functional computer in a week if they have antiVIRUS protection. Remember spyware seldom destroys a computer, it simply makes it sluggish and may take data.

I would keep them because of the concept of what one can miss the other probably won't.

In addition, Spybot is something more than the typical antispyware product. It also offers the following:

    1. Registry backup
    2. Shredder
    3. Protects IE
    4. Start up manager
    5. Basic System Internals
    6. Uninstaller
    7. Hosts manager
    8. ActiveX and BHO control
    9. Winsock LSPs

I'd keep it instead of having several different programs covering these areas, which would create overlap.

I still keep ad-aware and spybot on my computer and scan with them from time to time. I'm impressed with spybots results in the latest tests. It beat the other two common freebies spyware terminator and windows defender. I think i'll definitely be keeping it.
