    Hi All,

I was wondering if I should try this out. I currently use Antivir Free and saw that this program is based off the kaspersky AV...kaspersky for free? O my!
What do you think? It is brought to us by the magnificent AOL...give me some feedback please.

    Best Regards,
    Toby

Well it's missing a few of the better features, for example no proactive defense. It's still pretty good though. But be warned it has been known to cause some issues. I've heard reports of it breaking CHKDSK in Windows but if you don't ever bother using that, then it should be fine. You'll be rewarded with an excellent antivirus. Antivir free is good too but AVS would detect spyware, rootkits etc.

In conclusion, as long as you're fine knowing its AOL and it's missing a few things, it's a great product.

If I'm correct it's free for a year only, plus if you look at the agreement, it should say something about they have the right to look into your personal info, etc. I could be wrong though. Overall, I wouldn't get it with the those terms.

It doesn't have the proactive defense module. That's pretty much all I know.

I know it protects rootkits because of what it says when you click on the threats it can protect. Rootkits is listed.

That's cool that it detects against rootkits...I wonder what proactive defense module is (never used kaspersky)...think this would mean resident scanning.

No, AVS has resident scanning. Proactive defense is like HIPS and heuristics put together, I think.

It's Kaspersky 6.0 in an AOL dress without web-av & PDM, so the experiences are much like those with 6.0.

I just wish that AOL would actually re-compile the avs.msi installation program more often. As of right now you have to reboot the computer 2x after installing AVS, and has been this way for over a month now.

adding a behaviour blocker such as Cyberhawk with aol active virus shield gives a good substitute for the Proactive defense. this combination will give really good protection with the addition of a firewall.
