I have a client who uses Acronis True Image Enterprise and they have said they can image some pc hard drives for me. My question is, will Acronis be able to image the data which is unallocated, i.e deleted files?

Normally we would suggest using some forensic tools for this process?

Any thoughts from a Super User of this product would be welcome,

    Thanks

I've never thought about this before, but as it makes an image of in use sectors, then I would think the unlinked clusters and therefore the info they contain would be imaged along with the entries in either the FAT or MFT.

After all a deletion just 0xFF's the identifier everything else is still there.

If security is a concern, then I'd suggest your thoughs on 'forensicking' the disk the way to go. Strangely Acronis now include a disk cleaner with the Home version, but not with the big boys versions.
