Hello. I am new here but would like to ask for some help. OS is windows 98se I noticed it was very slow going to web sites I ran CW shredder and it told me I was infected with a variant of the cool web search so I had it fix it. At no time did anything hijack my browser and my system is running much faster. But I notice when I go to certain web sites It says (About Blank) just before connecting to the site. I have ran Adaware 6 and Spybot but they do not find anything. There must be some remnant somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you, Duncan.
In my opinion, I would download and run a reg cleaner. There might be a link left somewhere in your reg that causes it to load that page. I recommend: Registry Tuneup Good Luck
Thank you very much for your quick reply. And I will certainly give that program a try. The funny thing is I always get the page I want it is just before it loads it flashes About Blank just above Start and then the page I am requesting opens. Thank You Duncan.
Hi Duncan, It sounds like you maybe have some residual problems from the CWS cleaning, CW Shredder did. Your best bet would go to Castle Cops and have a Hijack This Expert review your HJT Log file. Read the FAQ before posting, explain the problems you are experiencing, just as you have here ... and some one will walk/guide you through the process. Don't worry they will provide you a links to all the software you may need for any further removal. And the service is free. Do NOT attempt to use Hijack This by yourself, as almost all of what is displayed is need to operate your PC. HTH, Steve

Heh, I have the same that Dunc is experiencing. I kept thinking about:blank is after me or something.
