0 was left out on purpose....;) ...I'm only curious about how many folks forked out some money for a security program to find out later that developement stopped......

ShadowDefender. A week ago I would've replied with "2", but have started once again using good, ole version 2 of Faronics AE ... installed XP in a VM and was able to start using it once again.

Abandoned or discontinued- it really doesn't matter as the result is the same.

I bought Trend Micro Antispyware version 3.0 and shortly thereafter it was upgraded to version 3.5.
A few months later, it was discontinued as a separate product.
I hated to see it go.

Too bad the poll question didn't ask...

How many security programs have you bought or used that are in active development, but you abandoned them anyway?

That would have been a fun thread. :cautious:

For this poll, all that comes to mind immediately is BOClean.

Not a lot of active development going on with that one.

I have no idea how many abandoned discontinued security apps I've tried over the years. Still have several dozen.
Regarding ones I still use, all of my core security apps are abandoned or discontinued:
    System Safety Monitor
    Kerio 2.1.5
    Proxomitron
The combo is lightweight, rock stable, and has never let me down. No reason to change.

I've got an old XP machine in the back room that still has snoopfree on it :)

Maybe it's still got SafeSpace on it too? I haven't even booted it up in a while.

I purchased AVG Identity Protection when it was on sale. Then I found out the reason it was on sale was because it was no longer supported as a stand alone product. I remember reading their response something about since I got such a good discount I should not complain. Never will I do business with that v3 store again. At least I got my money back though.

Abandoned and no longer using: ShadowUser Pro, the notorious ProcessGuard, RegDefend. Shadow Defender is the only abandoned one that I still use.

In my viewpoint, the 2 greatest software security programs ever created, and they didnt make it. Go figure.o_O
