Okay, my PC crashes after a while, and at start up, I get a message from spybot resident about internet explorer toolbar.. if you need to know it, I will reboot and copy it.. I have no idea what this is, and happened when my brother was on the PC. I have the HJT log, but it may not even be a hijack.. I have used spybot to scan for it, but it comes up with nothing. AV software is also unable to pick anything up..

    Hi Vilath,

Not much wrong with your log.
Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9100102C-A829-413B-913B-A77E7B50459A} - (no file)

    O16 - DPF: {FCE90474-8B60-445B-A2B5-57E289BCEA42} -

Then reboot and let us know the exact message.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Okay, this only started asking me if I wanted to change/delete the value when the crashing occured:

    Category: user-specific browser toolbar
    Change: Value deleted

    Entry: ITBarLayout

    Old Data: hex:11,00,00,00,4C,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,34

That's the reg change that spybot resident detects.

    Hi Vilath,

I can not see anything in your log that might be invoking this.
The only way I can think of to find out is to allow the change and then post a new HijackThis log.

To monitor what happens it would be nice if you used Filemon and Regmon from http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/utilities.shtml or something similar.

And make a System Restore Point so we have something to fall back on.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Hi; thanks for your help so far.

The hijackthis log previously is with the change accepted (and it is the same with it denied) As I said, I'm not sure if it even is spyware, but I'm still not sure o_O . I now have filemon and regmon, and I will check them out in a minute.

Is there any way to list what "desicions" you have made spybot resident remember, and change them? :S

And if anyone could answer my previous question. I accidently clicked "remember this decision" then pressed deny.. and it started happening again. Therefore I can't see any changes in the registry when it happens..

Edit: Okay, my PC stops responding after half an hour since I restart it. Any windows that are open, keep on responding, but I can't go to any websites or start up any other programs. The start menu does not display anything apart from windows catalogue and windows update. It claims that no processes are running; I'd rather not reinstall my PC, as I really want to know what is causing it, and I really need some help! o_O :(

    Hi Vilath,

I have asked some people that know much more about Sopybot to look at your previous question.

Can you see in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files if you can find SmartDownloader Control or SmartDownloader.cab ?
That would be the program that belongs at the end of that line.

    Regards,

    Pieter

There is no SmartDownloader Control or SmartDownloader.cab in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files..

I have totally no idea what is causing this, and it's really getting on my nerves. :)

I can understand it is driving you up the wall. But I really would like someone more familiar with Spybot to look at this, since I think the two issues are related.
