a2 has more than 19000 trojan signatures and tds has only 12000 trojan signatures so it means a2 can detect more trojans than tds-3 ?
Signature detection counts vs actual trojan detection counts No anti-trojan detects more trojans than TDS, so dont let strange counts fool you! TDS is the only anti-trojan supported by more than 1 fulltime worker, and the only anti-trojan with daily database updates, and it has been this way for years, and every day that has gone past TDS has grown just that much bigger than all the other anti-trojans. a-2 says it detects 19000 trojan signatures -- this doesn't mean that it detects 19000 trojans, but just that it has 19000 signatures, which probably only detect "a few thousand" trojans (2-4000 probably). To see how many trojans a scanner actually detects, look at its database list (virtually all scanners are able to show you a list of trojans detected). At last count, TDS-3's trojan count was more than twice that of our nearest competitor. For example, a-2 has 19000 signatures, and TDS3 has 32628 references. I'm not sure how many actual trojans a-2 detects, but TDS detects 11961 primary trojans -- these are actual individual trojans. Hope that makes things a bit clearer Best regards, Wayne
Let me correct it: The a² signature database currently contains: - 6746 unique trojans (server, client and tools of one trojan are ONE unique) - 887 unique worms - 6 unique spywares - 3129 dialer signatures for different dialers which are grouped as "Dialer". That makes 10768 unique ones.. or 24216 signatures. And note that a² currently only includes the most important malwares. Thousands others will follow with the next bigger update. mc
but in the website of a2 it is written that Number of Signatures Trojans 19620 Dialer 3129 Worms 1524 Viruses 0 Spyware 9
That's right. Sum the values and you will get the 24216 signatures. Signatures are always more than unique malwares. E.g. TrojanXY Server, TrojanXY Client and TrojanXY Servereditor are grouped to TrojanXY and count 1 unique malware. mc
