And where exactly did I say spyware? I didn't mention spyware at all. Please read my post:

Also, sorry, but a product that says antimalware, doesn't speak of viruses at all. I would still use an antivirus app.

so wer in anti MALWARE does it mean "excluding viruses" ive given u all the info u need, A2 antiMALWARE includes the Ikarus ANTIVIRUS engine and the A2 antiMALWARE engine, so happy now?

if u dont know what MALWARE is yet, then thats a shame on these forums since malware INCLUDES viruses since a virus is malware.

Fair enough, but why call something antimalware or antivirus then? Semantics I suppose. I realize malware means pretty much everything. But why have an anti virus forum here and an anti malware forum then?

For the most part, anything that protects against "viruses" per se, say that.

only reason is cause historically theyve been called Antiviruses since befre thats all they did, and to prevent user confusion the name stuck :doubt:

Im using A2 and its very good product, a LOT of features, very good detection rate, does not slow down.
I love that surf protection feature.

A2 with Prevx or SASPRO would be my ideal combination.

1 thing i dont like about it, it only does On-Execution file scanning, not on read/write...

My experience with the word malware is this.

Malware= Viruses, Trojans, adware, etc etc.....

Malware is one/universal word for all/many threats!

Edit: Just checked A2 website wich says A2 protects against....

Viruses, backdoors, trojans, rootkits, worms, bots, dialers, keyloggers, adware, spyware, trackingcookies!

So YES Viruses is included !-)

I searched the Emsi Software Web Site and was unable to find whether A-Squared Antimalware DOES or DOES NOT scan on read/write.....

Where did you obtain this information that A-Squared Antimalware only exists On-Execution scanning and not read/write scanning?

Could you please provide us with an link to this information?.....Thanks

When installed, does A-Squared Antimalware register in the Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, and 7 Security Centers?

    It's true. A-Squared's guard works on-execution:

"On x64-systems the scanner and OnExecution guard work very well, but the behavior blocking module (Malware-IDS) does not run currently."

You can find this text here: http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/antimalware/

Also, this information was confirmed by A-Squared staff too.

This explains the workings of A2AM:

    http://www.protectstar-testlab.org/content/site/dateien/1010test-emsi-a-squared_en.pdf

*Quote* "The protection concept used by
    a-squared follows a different approach
to the usual method: Whereas classical
    virus scanners examine files for
damaging code when the files are read
    or written (on-access scan), a-squared
only analyses the files when they are
executed. This process is also known as
    an on-execution scan."

Guys, can someone tell if A2 Anti-Malware is heavy CPU-wise? (i don't care about RAM).

    Also, how many processes run?

    Thanks.

Only 2 processes, Guard and Service. CPU wise, I personally don't see much of a difference between A2 and Avira, which it replaced (I'm running it on a Laptop under Server 200:cool:. RAM-wise, in my machine both combined are ~14,000K.

I really don't know it is there.

whats the CPU usage of A2 when u launch a program for instance? that wuld be a more accurate way to compare since it only scans on execution unlike normal AV's that are always scanning.
