    So, the best way is to install the updates only from the addons.mozilla.org site, I guess. Also, perhaps I´m a bit paranoid but I always refuse to install extensions if not hosted on the official site.

    4give if this is a dumb question, but what's the extra "s" stand for? Secure?
    I've got maybe a dozen Add-ons, and I always use the built-in updater. I've never installed one that didn't have a high number of positive reviews over a period of time, but other than that I can't say I've really worried about them.
