    Hi my friends ,

I need you're experiences to choose a backup software but I don't know which one is good .
I need a software to backup & restore to dissimilar & same hardware , which is very important to me to done it in a good way , because i need it a lot in future for restoring it to many PC's .
I don't want to face Blue screen of death or sth like that after restoring to dissimilar or same hardware...

also , Do I need to activate my windows & softwares again in a different PC?

    thanks a lot.

    Hi Rokhsana

I did a lot of testing on ShadowProtect's Hardware independent restore, and in a away it amazed me how well it did.

But there is a huge caveat. The underlying object is to get the machine up and running. It won't be just like the system you imaged. Once it is running the first thing you have to do if the hardware is truly dissimiliar is to install all the drivers you need for the target machine. That at times proved a bit challenging.

Also if I remember a couple of times activation did become a requirement.

There may be better ways to do what you need, but I didn't know them.

When yes it does. Restoring to the same hardware is a non issue. No activation issue.

On activation it depends. Some software looks at hardware, so it is a different machine you may have to reactivate. Some software only allows say 2 activations, and restoring to a 3rd machine wouldn't activate. It just depends.

    No easy answers.

For restore dissimilar & same hardware I vote for Acronis True Image, no problems, I prefer the iso image in boot for these tasks.

You probably are going to have to use the Cross Platform Recovery Platform.

Acronis True Image 2013 iso, and before 2011, works fine for me, no problems if you change HDD to SSD, HDD to new HDD, SSD to new SSD, etc in same or another pc no problem at all, at least for me.
I'm sorry but I have no experience with ShadowProtect.

The full protect comes with both the desktop and the recovery enviroment. To restore you need to boot to a recovery environment of some kind.

StorageCraft ShadowProtect 5 Desktop retail price is $89.95

True Image 2013 + True Image 2013 Plus Pack costs $59.98 only

For me, I will choose Acronis, because I do not know why I need to pay $30 more money to buy ShadowProtect:D

Well, most of cases restore at different hardware or PC has sense for similar machines, you know, other hardware is others drivers, etc. And yes, you'll need activate again Windows and Office. Just my opinion :)

TerabyteUnlimited's products IFL/IFD/IFW are extremely reliable.
I have lost count on how many restores I have performed since 2007 and never had a failure.
The license (for home users) is for 3 systems and if you ever need help their support will guide you through.

Windows 8 is very forgiving when just doing a simple restore (no special dissimilar hardware restore). I did that on two machines so far and Win8 recovered very nicely. Detected all the new hardware. But those were not OEM-locked installations of Win8.
