I am going to buy a laptop soon. There is no big rush so I can wait a few months, no problem. What I want to be able to do is buy a laptop when I will be eligible for the free upgrade when microsoft launches 7. My questions are:
Will microsoft be offering the free upgrade. Just because it has always done so in the past, does this make it a for sure thing? And secondly, how do you know the date they choose? Do they announce it publicly?
I appreciate any answers I may get. Thanks in advance!

There is an extensive 12-page article on that matter, available here - The Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Program. But of course I would advise to double check anything with an OEM, you would be getting your laptop from.

If I were to look for a new laptop, I would've actually waited till Q4 2009, to get a machine based on Intel's new Calpella platform.

Thanks for that link estra. That's exactly what I wanted to know.
And thanks for the Intel tip as well.
