I more or less agree with the first evaluation. This was my experience on WinXP unfortunately the computer died so I am now using Windows 7. This has created a need for a 64Bit firewall that works & won't crash the new computer. At present I am using PC Tools version of Look N Stop because it runs on Win 7 64 Bit. Zone Alarm looks appealing but I want to try to stop installing Firewalls & settle on just one. I was previously using Online Armor & really want it back but it will not run on my new computer until they release the 64 Bit version, unfortunately that new version is not available. Is anyone actually using ZA Free on Win 7 64 Bit with good results? I am not eager to try out any restores at least for awhile.l

I can't vouch for the free version, but I've been running ZA Extreme Security on Win 7 64 with very good results.

Well, comparative testing of Firewalls is an art-form on the net, it is as productive as discussing who is the best driver. There are countless tests to study and all of them come up with a different conclusion.

I can quote some that put Comodo a mile lead above all others, then you get a myriad of alternatives following. It is a matter of technically studying all the data and making a logical judgement. You need to have a reasonable educational standard to take on this subject. But, you can always try any of them - suck it and see.

I used ZA for about two years but changed to Comodo a long time ago and never looked back. It has never let me down once and performance has been impeccable.
None of the criticisms made have passed my way, it has been trouble free and my capability to handle the technical aspect poses no problem, kids stuff. Admittedly not for dear old Granny, she can have ZA.

I have uninstalled Comodo Firewall and Comodo IS several times without a single problem, not a squeak. Yes, you have to manually sweep up the debris, but so what, it`s easy. Goes in and out like a dose of salts.

My belief after much experience is that Comodo laps all other Firewall`s available. ZA and partners are very good, but not up to Comodo standard.

Well my experience with Comodo is actually good. But, uninstalling the latest finished off my snapshot when I was using Windows XP twice. No problem I restored & was working again. So I would concur that there is an uninstall problem. Until I get more familiar with Windows 7 I will defer form installation. The other alternative is I could install & keep forever not ready for that howeve.

Given that set of criteria, I too would use it again..sort of like going back to an old friend.
But I seriously doubt that will happen. As far as firewalls go, I have never seen one go backwards in code. They just keep adding revisions when enough complaints pile up, and then the revisions cause other problems, and on, and on, and on......no end in sight.
For some reason, a company just cannot be happy with a good product.
To any vendor that might view this....please, please......
    DON'T FIX WHAT AINT BROKE.

If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Just tweak it! - tweak it! - tweak it!- until it finally DOES break. :D :p o_O

Tried to install the latest 2 versions of ZA Free along with AVIRA PREMIUM 10 and the setup abruptly stops at 1/3 of completion. Windows claims McAfee Antivirus Scan interfered but I don't have it and never had and even uninstalled SiteAdvisor and disabled MBAM and AVIRA but no way!!! ZA is buggy even in the setup!!!

Direct yourself to ZA support forum and post there exact error messages or screenshots. For issue related to failed ZA installs try their ZA removal tool or manual removal. Most of the time this is due to OS locking files. For issues related to corrupted windows repository run this tool. For issues of security left overs try this tool. I know many users running AVIRA and ZA without any problems :)

Windows 7 64bit gave me an error message that said I was using McAfee Antivirus Scan. I never had McAfee on my computer! Mine came with Norton, but I remove it and put avast! on it. It never caused a problem with ZA.

I've never had any trouble putting ZA on any computer.

Did you put AVIRA PREMIUM 10 or Avira Premium Security Suite on your

computer? If it was Avira Premium Security Suite, that would be the

problem as Avira Premium Security Suite has a fw.

You're right!!! I once had before the premium version the AVIRA suite version. May be the uninstall wasn't so complete. I tried to install indeed ZA free on my XP computer and it worked ok. At this point, I don't want to fuss with my security softwares anymore on Vista and will choose ONLINE ARMOR FREE
